a)接专有名词，意指“不但，不仅”，有and的含意。 He was more than a scientist, but was a poet. 他不但是为生物学家，還是个作家。
b)接数词，意指“...之上”。 More than twenty people were injured in the accident. 20多的人在安全事故中负伤。
c)接修饰词，意指“十分，十分”。 He was more than pleased with her performance. 他对她的演出十分令人满意。 d)接含can的从句，意指“这般...不可以;...得不”。 The beauty of the place is more than I can describe. 那地区美的无以言表。 e)接形容词，意指“不但是...并且还...”。 They decide to do more than talk about the rise of the cheating.
